Thomas Newman University of Oregon, B-Arch, 1987 Tom started his career in Boston designing municipal and educational buildings such as Brooks School Library and Kennebunkport Police Station. He moved to San Francisco and worked at Wisler-Patri on large high rise structures such as Caltrans District 4 Headquarters. After the Oakland/Berkeley fires in 1991, Tom turned to residential design to rebuild homes. In 1994, he moved in an entirely new direction doing retail design for Gap Inc. for their high profile locations such as Old Navy Times Square and prototype "green" stores. In 1999, Tom moved to Los Angeles and worked for Appleton & Associates in Santa Monica specializing in high-end residential design as well as a new private country club for the Irvine Company. In 2003, Tom formed Newman & Wolen with Debbie and they have worked on numerous homes as well as retail and commercial projects.

Newman & Wolen Design

Deborah Wolen graduated from Tulane University with a Master’s degree in Architecture. She began her career in San Francisco, designing stores for Gap, Inc.’s Corporate Architecture and International Store Design divisions. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles and, as Project Manager for Kenneth Park Architects, designed and managed construction for Lucy Activewear’s multiple locations. In 2003, Debbie joined Tom and formed Newman & Wolen Design.

Debbie is a licensed architect in the state of California. She is a member of NCARB and the U.S. Green Building Council, and is also a LEED Accredited Professional.
